Short Road Bike Guide for Beginners

This short Road Bike Guide objective is to give folks new in road cycling a few points to look at and to consider when at the cycle shop. Only the bike shops' professionals can give you all the pieces of advice that you'll need.

As a beginner myself, after going through the process of purchasing a road bike and ridden long rides, I've finally understood why there are cyclists out there who spend a lot of money for upgrades. Trust me, when you spend more than two hours on a bike or 6+ hours on it to complete your century (100-mile ride), you'll understand why you want a good bike. And you won't regret your investment.

I will go through the mistakes that beginners like me usually make when they consider their first road bike as I go through each of the 10 sections below:
  • Bike
  • Frame and fork
  • Crank, chainrings, and gears
  • Front and read derailleurs
  • Handlebar and stem
  • Brake and gear levers
  • Saddle
  • Wheels (tire, rim and spoke)
  • Clipless pedals and cycling shoes
  • Accesories
