If you prefer a Bible translation that is neither too dynamic nor too literal, the Revised Standard Version - Second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE) is perhaps the best Catholic Bible.
Far from saying that this is the perfect translation (and there is no perfect translation), as of 2006 A.D., the RSV-2CE could be the best compromise between readability and literal translation. In a hundred years from now, the English that is used in the RSV-2CE could become "old English", and thus we would need another updated/revised translation.
The English Bible translation used in the Navarre Bible commentaries is the first edition of the RSV-CE.
The RSV-2CE that is presented in the above picture is the Second Edition, published by Ignatius Press. The overall finition and presentation of the Second Edition are less tiring for the eyes when hours are spent in reading it.
