Motherhood - Happy Mother's Day !!!!

Our society often looks up to great teachers, nurses, doctors, firemen, soldiers, priests, nuns, presidents, police officers, artists, musicians, sport champions, engineers, physicists, mathematicians, chefs, ... as heroes. And we rightly do so since they prove how human beings can excel in their domains when they develop the talents given to them by God. However, nowadays, our society too often fails to realize that behind every great person, there’s is a mother who one day said ‘yes’ to life, a mother who nurtured and protected that life. The greatest thing that could happen to human kind was when a young Jewish woman, Mary, said ‘yes’ to life.

But when a mother says ‘yes’ to life, she also accepts whatever could happen to her child, just like Our Blessed Mother Mary accepted that her Son be tortured and crucified. It takes a lot of courage and sacrifice to say ‘yes’ to life.

One other thing that our society fails to see is the preciousness of life of the elderly people, the weak, the poor, and people who suffer of some diseases or some disabilities. Somehow our society thinks that those lives are not worth living and tries to eliminate them. Why does our society fail to see the preciousness of their lives ? The short answer is because our society can not recognize any value in their suffering. Yet, as Our Almighty Lord Jesus taught: “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Where did Jesus go ? To Calvary, the place of suffering. In the spiritual domain, the elderly people, the weak, the poor, and people who suffer of some diseases or some disabilities are those who have already taken up their cross and followed Jesus through their suffering.

Therefore, as much as we look up to great artists, musicians, engineers, physicists, doctors, ... we should look up even more to those who embrace their suffering with courage. In the eyes of God, they are greater heroes. Again, behind every suffering person, there’s a courageous mother who said ‘yes’ to life, although she could be under pressure to say ‘no’ to that life.

Every mother deserves high respect, encouragement and support from us. Let us give to mothers a huge applause and huge {{{hug}}}. Let us also remember on a daily basis to show them our appreciation.
