Joseph Polizzotto's Answer to an article on Father Thomas Reese's views of the Catholic Church
Father Reese’s views of Church

I was very disappointed to see that you would print the views of Father Reese, S.J. about the state of the Catholic Church today without offering a parallel article written from a different perspective.
Father Reese would have Catholics believe that what is wrong with the Church today is that She has timeless doctrine, a hierarchy, and solemn liturgies—all marks of what the Catholic Church essentially is at its core.
What the Church needs today is not dissent but fidelity to what the Church is and teaches. Why doesn’t Father Reese just become a Protestant?
I would have hoped to see more balance and orthodoxy in a paper that purports to represent the values and concerns of many Catholics in the valley. In this instance, you have really failed!
